A cultural home, open to everyone

Founded in 2008 by Indian students and researchers at TU Chemnitz, the Indian Cultural Center (ICC) Chemnitz began as a student welfare association dedicated to supporting newcomers. From our humble beginnings with just a handful of members, we have grown to become a vital community hub, serving the needs of nearly 9,000 Indian students in the Chemnitz area.

Our mission has expanded beyond academic guidance and welfare to become a prominent platform for cultural exchange. We are proud to have spearheaded initiatives that enrich campus life, including the establishment of the USG Chemnitz Cricket Club in 2014 and the launch of our signature cultural events.

These flagship celebrations—such as our yearly Diwali Night, Garba Night, "Glimpses of India" festival, and our celebrations for Janmashtami and Ganesh Chaturthi, by working closely with our partners at TU Chemnitz, the Studentenwerk, the Student Council (StuRa), and other local groups.

Through this synergy of support and celebration, ICC Chemnitz proudly represents Indian culture while fostering a vibrant, integrated community at the heart of the city.

When I landed in Chemnitz, I was overwhelmed. The ICC mentor assigned to me didn’t just help me find an apartment and open a bank account; they gave me the confidence to navigate a new country. That guidance was priceless.

The ICC was my first family in Germany. Their welcome at the airport and help with registration made a daunting process feel simple and safe.
